Moleskine Brush

Moleskine BrushMoleskine Bag
As Greg mentioned a couple weeks back, we’ve been playing with ink and brush pens. It’s been a good deal of fun and lessens the guilt when I’m plopped in front of the television – blast you Netflix PS3 Disc!

We get emails from time to time about how to get started in concept art. The response tends to be the same and almost always starts with “observe and draw from life!” To that end I’m really trying to follow my own words and have taken to carrying my sketchbook around. I lucked out and found the perfect bag at the perfect size – though some would say it could double as a purse. At least now I have something to smack a mugger with.

*Update*
I’ve been getting some requests for more details on the bag so here’s the scoop. If you head over to Amazon, you can find it as “Travel Portfolio Bag“. There are several independent resellers offering the thing which can get a bit confusing. I went with the Olive Drab to hold on to the remaining shreds of my masculinity. The bag doesn’t have the best construction, but it’s been great for me so far.

  1. Hey, LOVE you guys’ work. I was wondering where you found that bag for your moleskin? I’ve been looking for something like that forever. I carry around a messenger bag, which is a bit of overkill.

    Thanks.

I have to thank you guys for pointing out both the Moleskine sketch books and the Pentel brush pen to me. I haven’t got to grips with the pen yet (never did get much practice with real media) but I know it’ll be a lot of fun once I get more time to play around with it. As for the Moleskine book, well, I think the pages are magical or something. I really enjoy drawing in it with my blue col-erase pencil, the paper is so nice! Plus it has rounded corners which makes everything better. Love the sketches you attached to this post, really makes me want to get good with that brush pen! Hope to see more of this stuff from you both soon!

  3. That’s hilarious you mentioned the PS3 Netflix disc, my wife and I just got ours and we realized how many more hours will be sat in front of our TV now… so many streaming hours to watch!

The pentel brush pen is awesome, I just started using my again as well and love it! Keep up the awesome work and thanks for being a great inspiration to keep on drawing!

Sweet bag. Where did you find it?

Those brush pen sketches are awesome. I’ve been meaning to get one for a while and you guys convinced me to take the plunge and pick one up.

The only thing that worries me somewhat is how long the cartridges last. Do you get a lot of life out of them?

    It’s not a purse! It’s a European Carry-all! ;]

I use to have a whole bunch of those col-erase pencils back in middle school! I always loved to sketch in them, even if they didn’t always erase all the way. Maybe I’ll get me some more of those again. Also that brush pen sounds awesome! I have some brush tip pens, but they can never make thin lines, maybe I’ll get me one of those too… xD Also, I like the monster with the top hat! xD

I carry a messenger bag around with me so don’t feel like you are compromising your masculinity in any way my friend! they are great for lugging around big sketch pads as well as those WONDERFUL moleskine sketch books *got a few of those myself*
I will have to try out that pentel brush pen. I normally use a Windsor and Newton brush and bottle of ink. but i think that the brush pen might be better for not so formal pieces.
Hope to see you guys at some shows soon!
