Pilot

Today, a gust of wind swept up my Wheat-Thins empty bag from my balcony lunch and thrust it off into the world. Out of reach and impossible to fetch, I find solace in my unsolicited weather-assisted littering with an unlikely but captivating thought; perhaps it longed to fly. Fly on Wheat-Thins bag, fly on.

I just wanted to say how much I look forward to the frequently updated greatness of this site. You two do great work (hadn’t heard that before?) and are truly something to aspire to.
Keep it up, that pilot is fantastic!

Wow, very sweet to see! And yeah, I think your baggie had hopes and dreams to see the world. You can only sit around in one place for so long till you get that urge.
I’d love to see a speed painting or tutorial of sorts on this image. I know, too late now… but just a passing thought… along with your baggie.
Looking forward to more work from you two!
Jon
Great work!! Keep up the great work.
Glad we can keep you guys coming back! Jon: Dave and I are going to be doing more time-lapse vids, but we found they eat up quite a bit of our bandwith, so we’re looking into other ways to offer that up. Other host sites just compress them too much for our taste. But I’m glad you’re into them, we had a blast doing them. We’ll get something going soon!

Beautiful job on this art – per usual!
i’m curious as to what kind of hardware you guys use – since Sketchbook doesn’t appear to run on intel macs, and i knpw you are diehard Sketchbook users. working on pre-intel macs until a theoretical Sketchbook Pro 3 comes out?
kudos -

Hey Clay,
Because we make games and such, we’ve been on PCs for years now. Neither of us have a preference either way. Also, we both use Wacom Cintiq 21UXs. They’re pricey, but man, they are more than worth every penny. Wacom has some new smaller versions of the same that are cheaper. But if you ask anyone who uses them, you just have to have one.

I just bought a Wacom Intuos3. Not a very big one (6×8) but for a beginner I absolutely love the thing.
I would highly recommend one, my GF has the Wacom Bambo for her job and she loves it. It seems like Wacom is the way to go.
A 21UX would be nice, but soooo expensive
Greg, Dave & Guests,
Your not fooling me with the little wind, flying bag clue.
the way I see it is in light your recent online video interview success I’m betting the flying wheat-thin bag was planned and filmed.
Yes filmed for a kick-A ( like everything else you and Dave do ) short feature film called “Forrest Thumped”, “Creature Gumped” ( recall the floating feather ) or something similar like that.
Sorry, this corney comment is just me typing off to get rid of all the excitement from visiting the best art-blog I’ve ever been too.
Finally, from a fan/artist perspective:
How about creating a blog-page (or section of your site) where you can provide links/answers to all the tips, software, hardware and videos ( or links to ) that you both get asked about so much?
I think that would be cool and help new visitors ( that you know are gonna keep coming and keep asking ) get the answers to the same questions about “How You Do it”. this would also work as well in helping old timers like me remember it all without re=posting or buggin you again.
Sorry, just my 50 cents but really enjoying your stuff.
Bernard
Yes the 21UX is pretty cost prohibitive, but Dave and I got bamboozled into having to have them at home. Fact is, you can’t work on a Cintiq all day then go home and try to work with a tablet. It just don’t work, and so it went, the dimes were dropped.
Bernard: Dave and I are working out some of the new features we want to add to the site. The FAQ idea has been something we have been considering. As soon as we can get freed up a bit, we’ll roll out some of the new features. Some of which will be just what you’re looking for, others will BLOW YOUR MIND! Not really, this is still a no-helmets required place to play.
