We had an awesome opportunity to create this year’s Insomniac Games employee gift for the Ratchet & Clank Future Games. We’re huge fans of vinyl toys and wanted to do our own take on the characters we have come to know all too well. Dave handled the concepts, I sculpted them digitally and we both did crate inspired boxes for the set. We worked with Gentle Giant for the production. They arrived in the North Carolina Studio today and they are so cool! Qwark is 15 inches wide!! Not sure if these will ever be released to the public, for now they are just for employees. But it was such a cool project! Hope you like.

  5. Count me in! Those are awesome. Insomniac really needs to do some merchandising… or I need to send in my résumé.

  6. Noah says:

NOOOOOO! I want them… I NEED them. **drool** You can’t show these to me and tell me I can’t have ‘em! Will Insomniac hire me for a day?? Howsabout for no pay? I won’t even show up to bother anyone. Just hire me for a day, send me those gifts and fire me. That’s all I ask.
Seriously, awesome work, awesome game, awesome company. Nuff Said!

  7. Noah says:

  14. s4ndm4n says:

The shapes are so cool. I am so jealous. O_O
    Concept art is adorable too.
Make sure you post the box art!

  17. greg says:

We’re really glad everyone likes them so much! It was a long haul, we worked with GG for over a year trying to orchestrate these mo-fo’s. We’re hoping they can do a public run of these things someday soon.

We’re not going to show any more process of these guys. If you want to see the box art, Insomniac’s main site has some pics here and there.

As far as the digital sculpts, I can say that they were 100% sculpted in Maya. I do all my clean edge sculpting in Maya these days. It’s not as intuitive as ZBrush for free sculpting, but setting up production ready anything on the tail end of a sculpt is much easier in Maya, and being in a constant production environment, I really prefer having that assurance of clean usable models from the very beginning.

  18. Well, while you are waiting for these beauties to be mass produced… check out these coming in January: http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=DC86877AA

  19. Donnavon says:

    Tight! Love them.

Any words of wisdom for folks interested in having their own vinyls made on a limited budget? Gentle Giant’s work is tops but a little out of reach for most. Are there forums or groups for people interested in going from digital sculpts to vinyl?

Again… can’t say enough about your work. Amazing.

  20. Where the clank concept art?

  21. Bigg16 says:

Wow, no sure what else to say. I would pay ANY price to get one of those Ratchet’s.

  22. Matthew Witters says:

OMG! I WILL PAY YOU MOOOONEY FOR THESE!!!

  23. Benjamin Anderson says:

I will give you everything I own (TV, PS2/PS3 and Ratchet and clank games excluded) in exchange for a set of these figures!
I’ll even throw in what little money I have! I’LL EVEN WASH YOUR DISHES!

  24. Tim Evans says:

Wow, I want these so badly. I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d love to see vinyl toys designed by you guys, and now I have.
