My daughter and I were picking up Thai food the other night and she got all interested in the fish tank. The fish they had were nutty looking. She started asking me what each one was called, because I should know? So I made a bunch of stuff up, she didn’t believe me at all, but I thought I was pretty clever, ha! So these are what my ideas of some fishy-head-guys would look like!

these are great lol, the one with the open mouth reminds me of some awesome cards i used to collect when i was a kid called Baseball’s Greatest Grossouts.
ah the 80′s.
Those are great dude! Love the expressions!!
cool stuff, the one on the left looks like an upside-down bird head
These just look like they were fun to draw. Wicked range and tons of personality. Always a good thing to start my day with a bowl of creaturebox.
Greg,
Great Fish-toons! Can you tell me if you do these in full color and then turn them into some type of sepia tone or do you make them look like this using a special palette right from the start?
Thanks guys, fish are one of those limitless forms worth playing with. I want to push a little harder next time.
Bernard- these are just line drawings on a toned background, and then I use a white to add in the highlights. Itâs and old technique from school that used charcoal and white Conte crayons. Itâs quick and has been used for centuries by the Greats. Once in a while I will throw some simple color behind them to emphasize parts, but I didn’t in this one.
Itâs just a fun way to get volume quickly by using the tone of the paper as your middle value. I like it better than fighting white paper, it always wins against me.
Upside down crowned eagle is my fav too. You’re awesome!
These are awesome!
Wow – great blog!!! Glad I found it . Great stuff – very inspiring and fun to look at .
Mind if I link you up ??
Cheers .
Greg,
Thanks, I will be trying this…problem I think I have is I do 100% of my line work wiht ink and then scan everything into PS. Then I can’t seem to punch out all cavities…watching the CB DVD it all looks like you can throw down the colors under the BLACK line work without any white fills in the way.
I’ll figure it out as soon as I come down from watching you guys work…wow!
