Got to watch the first episode of American Gladiators! Amazing! One of the Gladiators is a Samoan guy, he does the chants and crazy eyes like you’d expect. In highschool we’d skate all night and come in around 1am to find the gladiators hurling some poor sap to his padded demise while we comfortably devoured our Frosted Flakes on the couch. Hilarious on every level, I’m so glad it’s back. I’m not saying its actually good mind you, but that doesn’t mean I can’t love it.

    Hey Guys,
I don’t want to turn into a post pest but you all are cutting edge. Your stuff is so cool and motivating and moreover you both post frequently!

It’s so cool to visit daily just to see what’s posted. I’ve been drawing and painting for over 42 years now and your work is the gas on the fire I needed to take a break from the easel and give the computer a serious effort.

    Keep It Going Guys,
    Bernard

Love his expression and the tribal tattoo, I would loved more to se him with entire body that is what came to my mind at fist glance of the post.

Couldn’t agree with you more about the gladiators. Cheesy as Chester Cheetah but I LOVE IT!!!

I’d love to see a drawing of the whole gladiator cast in your style…. I think that would be awsome.

Thanks Alfred and Luis! I know no body is kinda weird, but I just wanted to play with facial tats. It was just a self inflicted exercise.

That said, “Gladiators READY!! Contender READY!!”
Ahh, it warms my heart just thinking about it.

    Dave & Greg -
Your web site and graphics are killer – -excellent job! super pro! i’ve been a designer and illustrator for 30 years. I mostly work in Illustrator, mainly for kid’s products. i have been wondering where in the world a good digital sketching tool was, having been very disappointed for years with Painter, Photoshop, Artrage for sketching. on the basis of your recommendation and artwork, i purchased Sketchbook Pro 2. that was the smartest purchase i’ve made in a long time. an absolute dream to sketch with. awesome- thanks for the tip! it’ smooth as silk and fast fast fast.

I am curious about one thing though. if you don’t mind saying, what tool are you ‘inking’ with in Sketchbook? or is it more than one? you probably have customized them to your liking. i can’t seem to tweak the paintbrush to give me that Alex Raymond kind of brush work, but i’m new to the program, so – i’ll keep at it.

    keep up the great work!

    Hi Clay,
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like Sketchbook. The key to the various “looks” is through creating custom brushes. When prompted, base your new brush off the pencil tool. From here you can customize the sliders to your liking (and current hardware setup). The stamp spacing in combination with the Brush Edge setting will have a dramatic effect on your final strokes. Lowering the spacing will give you a nice sable brush look. Also keep in mind: the pixel dimensions have a direct effect on the scale of the stroke. If you find yourself working at multiple resolutions, you can make copies of your brushes to accommodate. Have fun!

    Dave –

thanks for the tips. i’ll give them a shot. i suspected your inking tool was still based on the pencil tool, but customized.

    today’s robot artwork looks great!
