Over the last year, CreatureBox has had the pleasure of working with Autodesk on the beta version of the latest release of Sketchbook. We love working with them and are excited to be a part of such a great tool’s development.
Recently, we had the opportunity to talk about some of our process and our skewed insights into this weird little world of character design. The interview is on Alias Design Community and has a few images that peek into a bit more of the “process” behind the scenes.
As an added bonus, we have been given copies of Sketchbook Pro 2009 to give away at Comic-Con! That’s right, full licensed versions of our favorite drawing app. To keep everything fair, we’re having a raffle: anyone who picks up one of our ashcans gets the chance to draw a winning ticket and become the proud owner of Autodesk Sketchbook! So come on by and test your luck. And for those who don’t get a copy, well, we’ll have a little something to console you. It’ll be ok, we promise.
We look forward to seeing you all at the show (Booth #4502), and for those of you on the waiting list, we will be letting everyone know what’s left of our stash after the convention. It’s first come first serve. Thanks again for the support!

Well, San Diego Comic-Con is almost upon us and we’re pleased to say our booth plans have come together. The banners arrived over the last few days and we can’t wait to hang them. They’re about the size of a football stadium…well, maybe a little smaller. Either way, the booth will be appropriately CreatureBox’d so please be sure to stop by and say hi if you’re in the area. Look us up at #4502!
We’re also excited to have for sale our first publishing venture in the form of a 28 page limited edition sketchbook. Thoughts, Scribbles, + Madness measures about 8.5 x 5.5 and contains a wild assortment of everything CreatureBox including monsters, spacemen, and robots. But that’s not all! Included in every copy is a progressive scan DVD containing over 40 minutes of time lapse character design. Imagine the previous videos from the site but on steroids presented in razor sharp widescreen glory.
We look forward to talking with everyone at the show…let the festivities begin!

*UPDATE*
We’ve had some requests for a waiting list for any copies left over after the show. If you would like to be included, please use the contact form and put “Sketchbook Waiting List” next to your name in the name field. Also, be sure to use a valid email address. We’ll sell the remaining copies in the order of the contacts we receive. Thanks!
*UPDATE #2*
The price of the sketchbook (which includes the DVD) will be 15.00 dollars. For internet orders after the show, 5 dollars will be added for domestic shipping and 10 dollars will be added for international shipping. Thanks for the great response to the book!

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of working on a fun project with the great students of “Ralphadelphia!” in Florida. They wrote and designed King Skullie – a true defender of evil. For my contribution I promised a video drawing which has now slithered its way onto CreatureBox!
Greg and I are still working on our Comic-Con plans. More on that soon along with the announcement of our Birthday contest winner!

Well everyone, that time has come. After one amazing year, we are now in the midst of making a major push to ready ourselves for our presence at Comic-Con 2008. And as you might expect, along with all the excitement, we also have a lot to prepare. So we need a little time away from the site, but you don’t think we’d leave you empty handed, do you?
Never! In fact, we are having our first contest give-away to celebrate our ONE YEAR anniversary. That’s right, CreatureBox has been through birth, growth, and now seems to be sitting up all on its own. But none of this could be possible without all the great feedback, comments and introductions we’ve been lucky enough to have from all of you! So we present you with a single question.
“What existing character in all the world would you all like to see most reinvisioned by CreatureBox?”
So leave a comment. We want to know, and whoever we think has hit it square on the nail, well, that’s where we pay it forward, or back, you know what we mean.
When we come back one month from today, we will be announcing the winner of the contest who will be receiving not one, but two prints from the ‘Box. From Dave’s collection, a dynamic interpretation of “Mr. Incredible”, and from Greg’s collection, the wacky apes of “Silverback Death Squad”.
So Happy Birthday CreatureBox! And here’s to our next year of craziness.

I’ve realized a good 85% of my designs are dudes screaming at other dudes. I guess I have some strange attraction to teeth…and bulging eyeballs…
