Optimus Prime Samurai
It was so nice to get back to the table and just draw again! It has been one heck of a few months for Dave and I trying to get the “more than we can chew” part of our workload wrapped up. But we just got the books back from the printers and they look great! Once the DVD gets back from the presses, we can get these things out the door.

Big news for us is we have a booth at Heroes Con this year in Charlotte on June 4th-6th. The show is brimming with amazing artists, so we’ll certainly be getting our geek on. But if you’re in the neighborhood, or not even close, swing by, we’d love to meet up and give you that firm handshake you all deserve for all the support you’ve given us over the years.

And speaking of the years, one of the first images I ever made for the site was a piece of the hero of heroes; Optimus Prime. I have been aching to do another one pretty much since I put the pen down on that one and so, 3 years later I present the bad-mamba-jamba himself donning some new samurai armor. Glad to be back!

Thoughts, Scribbles + Madness: Vol. 3
We’re back….well…almost. We’ve been ear deep in getting this year’s book together. The files have been magically transported to the printer and we hope to see the results soon. But in the meantime, we have a couple loose ends to tie up, so we’re heading back into the trenches. Hopefully we’ll arrive unscathed soon enough! Onward!

A Robot’s Journey

A Robot's Journey
I’ve always heard life is about the journey, not the destination. It can be tough to follow that advice sometimes but I’ve really tried to slow down a bit and listen to the tree frogs barking out in the woods. I knew I wanted to play on the environment side of the fence with this post so I decided to start a set reflecting one bot’s journey….somewhere. I don’t have a clue where he’s headed but I figure we can tag along and check out some bizarre places along the way.

Moleskin 03
I was laid up this past week. As my symptoms subsided, I was greeted by a warm sunny weekend. Taking the opportunity to bask in the rays of the welcome spring-like sun, I watched from a lawn chair as my 3 year old boy tromped through the woods as if he were discovering treasures every 2 feet, and hit everything else with a stick. So I had some time to draw, and I wasn’t willing to give up my basking to hit the PC. So I made a piece in my moleskin. Finished it up at the kitchen table. I don’t know if I’m completely thrilled with it. The forms don’t separate all that well from each other, but it was nice to draw with ink. I’ll figure it out.

Also, the votes for the Thorndyke Photo Contest seem to be winding down. So Tuesday and announce the winner on Wednesday! Get those last minute votes in soon!

Dragons
I’ve been exploring some new painting technique lately trying to find ways to speed up the process a bit. I continue to tip my hat to Enrique Fernandez as he cranks away on completely painted graphic novels. I can’t say I’ve made all that much progress, but I’m chipping away hoping to find the holy grail of light speed!

The Thorndyke contest is just about wrapped up – there were certainly some hilarious submissions (you need to login into Flickr to see the entire set). We’ll be closing the group later tonight and will have a voting page up soon so you guys can pick the winners.

Ok, enough chit chat, time to get back to Thoughts, Scribbles + Madness: Volume 3!

Thorndyke Call to Arms!
It’s getting close to the end. The Thorndyke paper-toy submissions end at the end of this month. When we first attempted this contest, Dave laughed at me and said, “Careful, we might only get one entry!” How wrong he was…we got FOUR!!! Pretty dismal. So I am appealing to your childlike desires to steal your mother’s scissors and your older brother’s glue and get crackin’. The four entry’s we do have are pretty hilarious, so be warned…but if you like free stuff, and you’re willing to put a little hard work in, you might find yourself on the receiving end of one of these prizes!! Here’s a link to the original Thorndyke Contest post if you haven’t seen it before. GO FORTH AND CRAFT!

Prizes

1st place receives an original drawing by both Dave and I for your refrigerator.

2nd place receives 2 mini prints from the CreatureBox archives.

3rd place will receive a signed copy of 2009’s sold out Palindrone Robot Supply book from our personal stash.
