The Monster Volume: Book Launch!

The last 6 years have been one heck of an adventure. When we decided to collect our full body of work into The Monster Volume, we didn’t really know what to expect. Printing a larger scale project overseas was definitely a mystery to us, while adding Kickstarter to the mix cranked the roller coaster ride to 11.

Over the last 10 months we have been absolutely blown away by the support from CreatureBoxers across the world. We had our share of bumps, delays and monumental learning experiences, but you guys stood by us while we pushed these crazy cartoons out into the world. We can’t thank you enough for that.

The Monster Volume

After slaying the Kickstarter shipping dragons, we are excited to announce The Monster Volume will be available in our shop today @ Noon EST (Monday, 5-13-13). This will be the last of our stock and we currently don’t have plans for a reprint. (We love self publishing, but we need to get our butts back behind the art table.) This might be your best chance to grab the creatures before they scurry back under the bed.

If you already have a book in hand, thanks again for the support! Please spread the word so we can find good homes for these little creatures.

The Monster Volume

We’re looking forward to returning to the blog with new images and projects, so keep your eyes peeled for the next monstrous chapter!

This week we delve into the Slugterra character designs for the Hooligan Crew, a group of thugs that are always up to no good. And you know you’re in for a good day when you’re asked to concept a robo Hyena.

Hooligan Development

We’ve also been working away on tons of sketch commissions for the Monster Volume Kickstarter Campaign. It’s been a nice break from the computer and we’ve tried to turn the Crazy Knob to 11.

And don’t forget, our monstrous Digital Collection of our sold-out sketchbook series is hanging out in the shop! Make your mom proud!

Outernauts Splash
Outernauts Monster Battle
Outernauts Monsters
Howdy folks! We’ve got a few monstrous tidbits to share as we’ve been battling forward over the last few months. First up, Outernauts, the newest IP from Insomniac Games, is getting closer to public release. If you’re into lush stylized worlds complimented by teeth gritting monster combat, this game is for you. The team has done an amazing job and we look forward to the PVP battles ahead!

We’ve also been hard at work on the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault. We’ve been having a blast on this project but our lips must be kept sealed. We’ll be sure to pass on more info as we get closer to launch!

Heroes Con

Next up, Heroes Con is right around the corner. Heroes continues to be our favorite show of the year – tons of amazing talent, casual atmosphere, and one of the best opportunities to pick up some amazing originals. In addition to having our own table (AA-311) we’ll also be hanging out with the great folks at Autodesk doing live demos in Sketchbook Pro at booth #432-531. If you’re interesting in picking up a CreatureBox original, we’ve carved a bit of time for pre-show commissions. Just select “Heroes Commission” from our contact form and you’ll be off to the races. To top it all off, Heroes is celebrating it’s 30th year; an amazing achievement for Shelton Drum and his staff.

New Book

CreatureBox Book Preview
If you’ve been checking out our Twitter feed / Instagram / Tumblr you’ve seen some peeks at the new book. We’re happy to say we’re still on schedule (amdist a flurry of blood, sweat, and a couple of tears). This is easily our most ambitious project to date, and we can’t wait to share it with all the monsters out there. More info to come soon!

Captain Starlight
A few years back Insomniac Games took a stab at a new game concept dubbed 1080Pinball. The goal was to make a rockn’ pinball game with a classic sci-fi flair. Even though the project never left the testing bed, I had fun with the concept art. To kick the project off, I explored some style directions — including guzzling a six pack of Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon.

Wrath of the Octomoth
All 4 One has hit the shelves! Greg and I had the great opportunity to create the concept art for the project along with many of the character models. Octomoth is one of the crazy bosses that you’ll battle along the way – hold on tight!

Also, if you’d like to catch a look at over 30 pages of development art, the A4O Strategy Guide features a robust concept art gallery. Kudos to the folks over at Brady Games!

The Evil Beneath
We’re closing in on our October 18th release date for Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. We can’t wait to get this adventure out to the public – it’s an awesome time to have solo or with friends! The image above was one of the first production paintings as we began to define the massive scale encounters you’ll be able to experience with your friends. The battles are epic!

If you’re the preorder type, be sure to check out the Playstation Blog for some cool bonuses. We also have an updated Fankit available with new images of all types (the pack with the monster is the most recent). Download away here!
