Elderbeasts Part Deux

I got to take my family up to Washington DC this past weekend. It was amazing, we saw all kinds of amazing art we had never seen before and my kids remained tolerant as long as we split the day with something more geared towards their interests. So we hit the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum as well as the Natural History Museum. Whoa. Some of the craziest creatures were in that place, I’ve seen a lot on line, but they actually had them. Some truly freaky stuff particularly in the deep see exhibits.

There was a particularly cool addition to the dinosaurs’ exhibit where they showed old photos of the skeletons posed with their tails dragging on the ground. Once it was discovered that this was an error, they adjusted the display, but used this as an example of how the museum changes with the times. So I thought it would be cool to have a creature that did slump his huge tail on the ground.

Good trip, I highly recommend it! Hope you like my critters!

I’ve been feeling pretty old lately. Got me thinking, what happens when creatures get old, not like decrepit, just old. Time to settle down, play with the grand-critters and finally build that cabin in the woods? I’m not there yet, but man…

I think I talked before about my obsession with model sheets. Currently I’m obsessing over 1930′s designs. These guys were inventing the stuff we’re all taking for granted right now! I wanted to hit some of that in a character with a few modern touches. Hope you like this stuff too!

*Update*
Hey guys, thanks so much for the comments and emails. We got a lot of inquiries about whether we had any plans to use him or if he was up for grabs. We have big plans for this little bot! I put together a 3D model of him last night to see if he would hold up. Pretty fun to mess with a simple character.

This weekend I took my kids over to a train museum which was in its off season. They were in repair mode awaiting the spring when people would start coming and riding the rails. It was great, no one was around, the guy was super nice and let us climb in and out of all the trains. Then I noticed this 1930′s old tractor off tucked away rotting its way out of existence. I thought it was time to give it another shot at life. I present to you, TractorBot!

Space Creatures

I don’t have any real reason for these. It’s just an exercise on shapes. I like to just get a few wacky ideas down and try them out. I did start to imagine all these guys as the crew of a space ship bound for the interstellar space station Arullion 5. But before they could get there, a hideous Arbrinian Space Eel swallowed them up. And that they are currently battling their way towards its cerebral cortex in order to stop the beast’s telepathic signals from unleashing a horde of Gorullian Zombie Henchman on Planet Quislar, all under the plans of galactic domination by the villainous Baroot Lord Tarnivious! But like I said, no real reason for these.

When I was a kid I was too afraid to touch the bottom of the lake where we vacationed in Maine. It was the old rotting leaves. It just felt so nasty! I always thought some random critter would go on and take a nibble out of my toes. Geez, I’m getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. I’d do it if I had a big mech suit though!
